Sidmouth lady cricketer to tour South Africa

SIDMOUTH’S Jodie Dibble has been named in the England women's academy squad to travel to South Africa in April on their first international tour.

The 14-strong party will be based at Potchefstroom from April 6-23, where they have three Twenty20 matches and three 50-over matches against South Africa women.

Seventeen-year-old Dibble (left), the younger sister of Somerset fast bowler Adam Dibble, has recently been awarded a part-time coaching contract by the ECB so her selection is no real surprise.

She toured South Africa in 2010 with England U17s and featured for the England Academy XI in India last winter.

The academy will embark on the tour with high hopes after their success against full international opposition last summer.

The squad will be looking to build on the wins they recorded against Australia and New Zealand during the warm-up matches ahead of the NatWest Women’s Quadrangular Series held in England.

Clare Connor, the head of women’s cricket at the ECB, said: “We are really looking forward to seeing how our academy side compete against the full South African team.

“This tour represents a significant first in the women’s game, where essentially an A side has the opportunity to play a series of matches against full international opposition.

“Our players will experience the pressure of international cricket and will be able to gauge where they need to improve to enhance their chances of breaking in to the full England women’s squad.”
