Week 1 Review
The 15th April saw the beginning of the 2012 Inter District Programme, and despite the earlier schedule all 20 teams participating on the Sunday completed their fixtures without any hindrance from the weather!
There were four half-centuries made across the series of matches with the highest score in boys cricket being made by Jack Moore for North Devon Under 10s. His knock of 68* was followed by a great spell of bowling where he took 4-17 to help secure victory for his side over the East. Alli Kelly from North Devon girls made the highest total however with a score of 93 against South Devon Girls. Jack Moore also had the best figures of the day but there were plenty of other contenders with 3 wickets including B Rudolf of East Devon who took 3 wickets for no runs! K Szymanski of South Devon came closest though with figures of 4-18.
The game that perhaps provided the most entertainment was at Ipplepen CC where in a nail-biting encounter South Devon Under 12s defeated the East by one wicket in the final over. A Causey (38*) hit a winning knock there batting through the majority of the innings whilst wickets fell around him, but the number 11 bat for South Devon, G Pitman, was just as much a hero there by hanging on in and allowing his partner to make the winning runs.
Girls cricket took another step forward this year with the introduction of an Under 13 Girls competition on top of the Under 15 Competition already in place. All four matches between the districts across both age groups were played at Cornwood Cricket Club which produced a great atmosphere for players, parents and supporters. West Devon and North Devon were the victors there with both of there age groups defeating the East and South respectively.
