Devon bowling against Dorset at Axminster
Opener Harvey Sargent led the way as Devon U13s secured their first ECB championship win of the season with a four-wicket victory over Dorset at Axminster.
Sidmouth batsman Sargent’s 61 from 92 balls, which included 10 fours, was the platform for Devon’s successful run chase.
Dorset were inserted and finished on 152-5 – a decent score on a challenging wicket due to the recent wet weather.
Key to keeping the runs down was bowling full and straight – something Billy Rudolph (3-15) did exceptionally well for the home county, who also gave a good all-round team performance in the field.
Sargent and Abbotskerswell’s Noah Wright put on 44 for the first wicket.
The partnership that really set Devon up for the win was for the third wicket when Sargent and Joe Hagan-Burt (18) came together for a 52-run stand.
Rudolph (19no) was there at the end to complete a good day individually with both bat and ball, as Devon won in the 39th over.
Dorset 152-5 (Rudolph 3-15), Devon 155-6 (Sargent 61, Wright 20, Hagan-Burt 18, Rudolph 19no). Devon won by four wickets.
