IN their last game of the season the Devon Dumplings grabbed an unlikely victory over The Frogs at the Exeter County Ground.
At 257 for seven and chasing 262 the tourists were almost over the line, then lost their last three wickets at the same score to hand the Dumplings a five-run win.
The Dumplings were put in to bat and made a bad start, losing former Heathcoat skipper Andy Giles for a duck.
The innings was repaired by Hatherleigh’s Gareth Tidball (72) and Plymouth’s Dave Watson (41) with a stand of 94.
More good work with the bat came from Simon Stabbert (48), guesting from the Frogs, and young Topsham St James player Alex Bosomworth (37).
The Dumplings innings was capped by a spirited eighth-wicket stand of 42 between Pavvi Mowalaghi and Alex Sparkes, leading to a healthy declaration total of 262 for nine off 59 overs.
The Frogs progressed promisingly to their target aided by former University of Exeter player Ed Maidment’s robust 69 of 56 balls, but at 257 for seven the momentum was lost and no more runs were added as three wickets tumbled.
There was good work with the ball from Plymouth’s left-arm Aussie pace man Steve Marks (3-51) and Bradninch’s Phil Chappell (3-43).
