Jury cracks ton but Kelly hold out for draw

DEVON DUMPLINGS

LUKE Jury hit an unbeaten century in the Devon Dumplings’ draw at Kelly College.
The Dumplings had a 100 per cent record before running into Kelly, but were denied a fifth straight win as the College held on for a draw at nine wickets down.
Batting first in excellent conditions the Dumplings made a good start through Old Kelleians Tshepo Legodi (28) and John McGahey, until the latter pulled a muscle taking a sharp single.
This brought in Jury, who dominated the Kelly attack, hammering an aggressive 104 not out as the Dumplings declared on 221 for five in just 33 overs.
The College started confidently against the seam attack of Legodi and James McGahey and 58 were on the board when skipper James Allenby turned to Kelly head Graham Hawley.
Hawley took five wickets with his orthodox left-arm spin. Although there were good contributions from Dom Monger (54 not out), who showed scant respect for his head, and Jack Newton (34) wickets fell regularly.
The College cause was not helped by two run-outs and the introduction of veteran off-spinner Mike Chetwynd, who also bagged two wickets, as they closed on 193 for nine.
The Dumplings next game is against Wye Rustics at Exeter on July 5.
   Devon Dumplings 221-5 dec (L Jury 104no, T Legodi 28), Kelly College 193-9 (D Monger 54no, J Newton 34, G Hawley 5-46, M Chetwynd 2-34). Match drawn.
