A FINE all-round performance by Abbotskerswell’s Byron Kennedy guided the Devon Dumplings to a convincing seven-wicket victory over touring South Oxfordshire Amateurs.
Dumplings skipper Richard Pyle had no hesitation in asking the visitors to bat on a damp and overcast morning.
Kennedy grabbed two early wickets as the SOA batted slowly; they reached 68 for four by lunch with only Adrian Manger (29) getting established, before being run out.
The visitors were eventually all out for an inadequate 152 off 55 overs with skipper Ian Caunce contributing a rapid and vital 45.
Kennedy finished with three for seven off only five overs and Exeter’s Graham White had figures of two for six off just two overs. Stoke-in-Teignhead’s John Burton was also among the wickets with two for 41.
Kennedy then batted through the Dumplings’ reply, finishing with 78 not out and being ably supported in the final overs by club team-mate Chris Kelmere with 27 not out.
The Dumplings got the required runs within 28 overs and for the loss of only three wickets. Dean Creed was SOA’s most successful bowler with two for 39.
