Kennedy century not enough

THE Devon Dumplings’ fixture against the Old Blundellians at the school again proved to be a high-scoring event but led to a fourth successive defeat for the Dumplings.

Batting first, the Dumplings reached 266 for 8 mainly thanks to a superb innings of 156 from Byron Kennedy, supported by Richard Pyle with 43. Mike Coe was the most successful OB’s bowler with three for 85.

In reply, OB Toby Lett batted positively to reach a very good 87 before falling to one of several well-held catches that brought the Dumplings back into the game. Chris Kelmere impressed in particular with his controlled off spin, taking five for 82 in total.

A solid partnership between Joe Smith (53) and Liam Lewis (47no) took the OBs close to victory.

With two overs to go, the O.B.s held on to score the winning runs with two wickets remaining.
