DEVON Dumplings and West Buckland School drew a well-contested game at the School on another difficult day for bowlers.
Having been put in, the School made a rapid start, the first wicket falling at 87 in only the ninth over. Following the dismissal of Craig Overton for 55, the scoring rate slowed somewhat but strong contributions from Tom Mitcham (34), Harry Booker (45), Jamie Overton (48) and Harrison Briars (60) allowed a declaration at 275 for 6 after 50 overs. Gareth Tidball took 3 for 54 and Bernie Wilson, with one for 59 in 17 overs, contributed a useful controlled spell.
The Dumplings reply started steadily with the openers Adam Fradgley (27) and Andrew Parr (24) getting starts before the first wicket fell at 45 after 15 overs. Graham White with 37 and Gareth Tidball with 40 boosted the scoring rate but the latter was run out backing up. The last 20 overs arrived with 152 still needed. Barney Huxtable with 67 not out, including 5 sixes, kept up the chase, but when Steve Miles went for 19 with 41 still needed from three overs the Dumplings were content to bat out time for the draw at 239 for 8. For the School Harry Booker had figures of 3 for 100 and Jamie Overton took 2 for 32.
