THE Devon Dumplings’ early season winning streak has now turned into a string of defeats, the latest occurring at the hands of BUSA Wanderers on a difficult, damp Shobrooke Park wicket.
The Wanderers batted first and made a disastrous start, slumping to 11 for 4 at one stage.
Some modest recovery enabled them to total 132 after 37 of their 40 overs with J Mason carrying his bat for an obdurate 56 not out and Ed Maidment contributing a useful 33 in the middle order.
The Dumplings opening bowler Steve Miles took 3 for 7 in 7 overs at the start before Exeter’s Peter Hensor captured 3 for 13 and Dan Pyle, the captain’s son, had 3 for 21.
The Dumplings response was slow until Richard Pyle with 24 gave some impetus to the innings and the score reached a promising 84 for 5 with 15 overs to go.
But the last 5 wickets could only muster 17 runs and the all-out total was a paltry 101. Jamie Pooley took 4 for 29 for the Wanderers.
BUSA Wanderers 132 (Mason 56, Maidment 33, Miles 3 for 7, Hensor 3 for 13, D Pyle 3 for 21), Devon Dumplings 101 (R Pyle 24, Pooley 4 for 29). Dumplings lost by 31 runs
