Devon U17 Girls played their second match in the ECB U17 2009 Women’s West League at North Molton Cricket Club’s ground on Saturday July 18th. The match was played against a backdrop of unsettled weather with interruptions for showers and the strong possibility of rain curtailing play.
Devon batted first and after a steady start by the openers, Amara Carr (69) and Giselle Ansley (67 not out) quickened the pace with a mixture of well struck boundaries and good running between the wickets. Also at the end of Devon’s innings Rebecca Bertrand scored a quick 22 not out.
With the possibility of rain at any time Devon opened with slower bowlers instead of their normal pace attack. The change of tactics paid off, as Gloucestershire were soon 12 for 5 with Nicole Richards taking 3 for 19 and Giselle Ansley 2 for 4. Clara Nielson, Julia Hayes and Jodie Dibble also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
The “woman of the match” award was shared between Giselle Ansley for her 67 not out and two wickets at the start of Gloucestershire’s innings and Amara Carr who in addition to scoring 69 also took four catches behind the stumps.
