D Division West - May 7

D DIVISION WEST

CHAGFORD 2nd XI picked up where they left off last season by beating Ashburton in their first game since being promoted as E Division West champions.

Rob Gofton made a top score of 76 in Chagford’s total of 197 for nine, then Dave Endacott (4-230 and Steve Sizmur (3-14) shot the Ashes down for 156.

Dartington & Totnes had Plympton 3rd XI on the rack but could not get the last wicket and had to settle for a draw.

Liam Bligh (50) and Mike Jarvis (37) helped D&T to 206 for eight, then Dave Carter had four for 44 as Plympton got to 151 for nine in reply.

Kingskerswell just missed out on promotion last season and clearly intend to go all the way this season if their 132-run win over Cockington is anything to go by.

Darren Watt hit 49 at more than run-a-ball rate in Cockington’s 160 all out.  However his departure at 77 for five heralded a slowing down in the run rate.

Cockington skipper Shaun Jarman batted almost 30 overs for his six runs!  Bowling honours were shared between Paul Harding (3-15) Pieter Douglas (3-46), Nathan Weedon (2-26) and Ellis Denega (2-40).

Kerswell’s response got off to the worst possible start when former Cockington player Kevin Jones was bowled first ball and Mike Etherington followed at 17 for two.

A steadying partnership between Erik Gregersen and Chris Hurrell took the score to 62 before a more substantial partnership between Hurrell and Pieter Douglas (35) almost saw them home.

The end came with Hurrell 66 not out and with 18 overs still remaining.

Torquay were with Kerswell among the also rans behind Civil Service last season and are another side serious about going up.

Whitchurch were on the receiving end of a 132-run hammering as Torquay got going with a full 20 pointer.

Rob Jack gave Torquay a start with 55, then Mawgan Penrice (87no) and Josh Hunt (63no) took the tally up to 246 for two declared.

Hunt is in a rich vein of form right now having clouted 114 against Kingskerswell pre-season, 92 of which came in boundaries. He was only in for 31 balls against Whitchurch.

Ollie Hunt then claimed three for 26 as Whitchurch were bowled out for 114 in reply.
