ECB U15s Club Cup Competition Final Report

The ECB U15s Club Cup Competition is often seen as the pinnacle of young cricketers careers having opportunity to compete against opposition from all over the county who they wouldn’t encounter otherwise, brings something special.  This year saw 20 teams from all over the county enter the cup, with knockout rounds taking place on a weekly basis for teams to progress through to the next stage.  The culmination of the competition this year was between Exeter and Paignton, in a final hosted by Exeter Cricket Club.

Paignton won the toss on a flat wicket and opted to bat first. Noah Wright took this opportunity with two hands a blasted a quick-fire 50*, he then had to retire to let someone else have a go. Paignton’s innings was punctuated with wide balls throughout which kept the scoreboard ticking each over. Seb Knight batting in the middle order for Paignton batted through, for a well-crafted 43 not out as wickets steadily tumbled at the other end. Some very respectable bowling figures for the Exeter attack, with Robert Dunn collecting 2 for 31 off his compliment, and Tom Lammonby and Ben Hayes each taking one a piece. At the completion of the first innings Paignton had posted 165 for Exeter to win.

Exeter’s reply commenced with some nice stroke play from James Bovey  and Tom Lammonby. Unfortunately for Exeter the talented Lammonby didn’t hang around and was caught at midwicket; much to the delight of the Paignton side. With Bovey still at the wicket Exeter always had a sniff but with some tight bowling a defensive fields set, Bovey departed for 31.  The continual fall of wickets throughout the Exeter innings meant they struggled to put a real charge towards the target, and with some tight bowling from Harry Ward (2-17), S Woodcock(2-26) and Seb Knight(2-24).  Exeter finished on 126 for 9 at the end of their 20overs at 9.10pm in the evening!
