5. COURSES
Matt Theedom said that courses running this winter had either finished or were coming to a conclusion. He covered in detail the coaching and child welfare courses currently on offer. Matt Cooke mentioned a Cricket Activators scheduled for May. They advised clubs to visit the Devon Cricket website regularly for course details and schedules and to book places early. Matt and Matt
are prepared to offer some courses (e.g. Cricket Activator, Coach Support Worker) at local venues if this was more convenient for clubs than having to travel to the Devon Cricket Centre in Exeter.
Similarly, Kevin Byrne said that Devon Pitch Advisers want to provider groundsmanship education at club grounds tailored to local needs of a club. This approach was subject to the approval of the governing body, the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG).
6. DEVELOPMENT GROUP CHAIR VACANCY
Nigel Ashplant had stood down as Chair of this group and there was now a vacancy. On behalf of the Group, Matt Theedom thanked Nigel for his contribution. Matt reviewed the terms of reference of District Development Group and asked attendees to put forward to him any suitable candidates for the vacancy. Details would be posted on the Devon Cricket website tomorrow.
7. FUTURE MEETING FOR CLUBS
In view of the poor attendance at this and previous East Devon District Meetings a discussion ensued around the format, content, frequency and location of future meetings (46 clubs were invited to this meeting but only 11 were represented at tonight's meeting). Clubs were asked to consider what might make the meetings sufficiently appealing to encourage more clubs to attend.
Matt Theedom believed that the meetings were not just for disseminating information one-way from Devon Cricket Board, but were particularly useful for Clubs to share similar experiences, issues, best practices, fund raising expertise, projects, etc.
He also thought that the meetings were an important way of enabling Clubs as a group to communicate their feedback and proposals via the Chair to the Devon Cricket Board as to how DCB could improve on the services and support provided.
8. GROUNDSKEEPERS
See also 5. above.
Kevin Byrne reminded clubs of the services offered to clubs by Pitch Advisers who were always willing to visit clubs and provide education, advice and guidance to groundskeepers as well as conducting formal surveys required for e.g. funding applications. See website or contact him or Colin Whitehall for further details.
