E Division - Uplyme lose unbeaten record
Uplyme and Lyme Regis were the exceptions to the rule on the second Saturday of July when they actually managed to get a game of cricket played!

The E Division high flyers are probably wishing now that the weather had beaten the Topsham St James efforts to stage the match at the nearby University sports ground for it resulted in Uplyme tasting defeat in a league encounter for the first time in almost 15 months!

Ashley Caddy finished with figures of 5-20 as St James were bundled out for 108.Tom Richardson was the top scorer of the day with 33

If Uplyme thought the job was done at the interval, then they were mistaken as batting proved just as difficult post-tea.

Wickets fell at regular intervals to Ross Treleaven (6-29) and Adrian Miller (3-17) the final one with the total on 72 to consign Caddy’s side to  a 36 run defeat.

The loss does not do any harm to the sides promotion bid for they picked up five points despite defeat whilst most of the other teams in the section were unable to play and so banked the six points awarded for a match cancellation.

Uplyme head into this Saturday’s trip to Shaldon knowing that if they return from South Devon with a healthy points haul they will have one foot in the D Division. Shaldon sit second, 18 points shy of Uplyme and two thirds of this soggy season will have been completed at stumps on Saturday.

When Uplyme met Shaldon in East Devon on May 19 Caddy and Steve Batey led them to a seven wicket win.
