The top two met at Shaldon where Uplyme and Lyme Regis emerged the happier with 15 points in the bank from a winning draw in a cracking match. Steve Batey (82) and Derek Wellman (55) were the principle run providers as Uplyme batted first and closed on 244-6. Carl Woolnough took 3-74 for the home side. Mark Couch top scored with 46 and Shamus McKenna chipped in with 44 as Shaldon were left hanging on with their final pair at the crease when stumps were drawn with the reply on 202-9. Skipper Ashley Caddy had figures of 3-37 for the East Devon side.
With the top two drawing, Kentisbeare moved into third with a winning draw and 14 points from a high scoring meeting with Topsham St James. Steven Reed (82), Andrew Chave (57), James Sprague (47) and Harry Howe (44no) all chipped in as the Kent’s declared on 284-5. Alex Sparkes picked up two of the wickets for the Saints at a costly 77 runs. Tom Richardson then took on the run chase, but once he departed for a splendid 77, the Saints hopes ended and they closed on 228-6. Chave completed a fine all-round shift for the hosts with 2-57.
Whitchurch picked up their first victory of the season at the 12th time of asking and with it climbed off the foot of the table and condemned Tiverton and Bickleigh to bottom spot. The Mid Devon side batted first and were restricted to 150-8 with Jason Parr and Martin Hutchinson both making scores of 33. Mark Kerswell took 4-44 and Andy Dickson bagged a brace for Whitchurch who had Billy Barraball (31) and Richard Hall (23) to thank for setting up the successful run chase. Andy Dickson and Josh Turl were the not out batsmen at the close when Whitchurch won on 153-8 with Dickson completing a fine all-round game with the winning run, scored with two overs of the contest remaining.
Ramesh Batagadaje top scored with 48 and Dave Murfin hit 28 as Kenn closed on 186-9 at Upottery. Stuart Drew (3-50), Gary Kennard (2-40) and Mark Frost (2-46) were the main wicket takers for Upottery who were then bowled out for 168 with only Ollie Rice making any sort of impression with 49.
Kilmington sit just 13 points short of a promotion berth at the two thirds mark of the season after they won by five wickets at one time table topping Bridestowe. Ben Noble took 5-19 as Bridestowe were bowled out for just 106 with only Ian Jutson (22) and Neil Griffiths (22) making much of a total. Tom Gooding (36) and John Lavender (23) then led Kilmington to a five wicket win at 107-5. Tom Foggarty and A Griffiths both picked up a couple of wickets each.
