Uplyme & Lyme’s Regis were denied a 17th successive league win when Tiverton and Bickleigh returned to their Mid Devon home with a losing draw. Mark Batey hit 63 as Uplyme closed on 171-9. Paul Rendell (3-26) and Jason Parr (2-18) were the most successful of the Tivvy bowlers in a fine all-round show. Skipper Tim Reed then opened and top scored with 57 as his side closed on 125-8 to deny the table toppers yet another win. It was the first time in 13 months that the East Devon side have not won a League game!Kenn were five wicket winners at home to Kilmington thanks to an unbeaten century from Ramesh Batagadaje who also claimed a couple of wickets. Kilmington batted first and closed on 201-8 with Tom Gooding (69) and Roland Stonex (33) the principle scorers. Batagadaje (2-23) and Henry Gayden (2-44) were the most successful Kenn bowlers before Batagadaje then hit an unbeaten 114 to lead Kenn to a five wicket win.
Rain spoiled what looked like being a close finish at Shaldon where visiting Kentisbeare were 159-4 looking to get at the hosts 199 all out. James Tufnell hit 78 and there was a tidy 44 from Karl Blackburn in the home side’s innings. Skipper Scott Chappell led from the front for the Kent’s with 4-27 and then watched Liam McCartney top score with 48 as the Mid Devon men reached 159-4 when the rains took charge. Seamus McKenna took three of the wickets to fall (3-36).
Rain also brought proceedings to a premature halt at Whitchurch where the home side were just a single blow away from the Topsham St James total of 168 when heavy rain ended play. The Saints were led to their total by Tom Richardson (36), B Barriball was the main wicket taker with 5-43. Josh Meadows then hit 54 whilst Ross Treleaven had 3-29 for the Saints with the home side 164-6 when the weather closed in.
Upottery sprang the surprise of the day as they became only the second team this term to defeat Bridestowe, beating them by seven wickets. Stuart Drew (4-30) and three wickets each for Gary Kennard (3-13) and Shane Kennard (3-19) helped bundle out Bridestowe for 101. Only Phil Wood with 44 made any impression with the bat. Skipper Dave Woolacott (41) and an unbeaten 23 from Ollie Rice saw the East Devon side over the line.
