SHALDON marked the opening of their new changing rooms and bar with an emphatic 200-run win over Tiverton & Bickleigh.

Todd Bulman carried his bat for an unbeaten 85 and, with supporting knocks of 82 from debutant Karl Blackburn and 27 from Carl Woolnough, Shaldon were able to closer on a commanding 264-6.

Phil Hubbard and John Hall both bagged a brace of wickets for the visitors who were then bundled out for just 64.

Mark Couch was the architect-in-chief of their downfall as he claimed eight wickets for 32 runs and eight of those runs came as wides! Shamus McKenna took the other two wickets to fall,

Tim Reed with 15 was the only batsmen to spend much time in the middle.

Upottery skipper Dave Woolcaott lamented his losing of the toss as his sides were put in and bowled out for 131. However, that final total dose not tell the whole story for Woolacott and Ollie Rice put on 63 for the opening wicket before Rice fell for 20. Then, from a comfortable 102-2 Upottery slipped to 131 all out as Charlie Clode claimed 6-26 for Kilmington.

Tom Gooding led the run chase with a splendid 63 and young Clode completed a fine all-round effort with 27.

Wollacott said: “It was clearly a very bad toss to lose! That said at three figures on the board and just two wickets down we really ought to have posted a challenging total. I don’t think too many of tour batters applied themselves as diligently as they could have done! We’ll have to put some hard work in and get our heads down with the bat.

I was also not best pleased with an extras count of 23 when they (Kilmington) batted, that’s another area for us to address.”

Bridestowe’s Sam Evan hit the games top score of 63 as his side won handsomely at Whitchurch where they batted first and closed on 208. George Webb claimed 3-61 and then chipped in with 33 supporting Euan Smith’s 40 as Whitchurch were bowled out for 120.

Dan Fogarty took 3-25 as Bridestowe landed a second successive victory to bank 37 out of the 40 points they have played for so far.

There was a late finish to the game at Uplyme & Lyme Regis where Topsham St James were the visitors and who ended up beaten by just six runs. The late finish was due to the collapse of the home Umpire which led to an ambulance being called.

The two teams agreed to continue their game and Uplyme, batting first, were bowled out for 144. Ashley Caddy led his side from the front with 69 and Mark Batey chipped in with 26.

Ross Treleaven took 4-58 for the visitors and Adrian Miller returned figures of 4-21. Miller claimed each of his wickets in consecutive balls.

Having never had a hat-trick before, he is now the proud holder of four successive wicket deliveries! Ross Treleaven then scored 58 and Tom Richardson hit 38, but the final wicket fell with Topsham just a single blow from leveling the scores. Steve Batey (4-35) and Neil Price (3-37) did the damage for then hosts with the ball.

The midweek rain put paid to Kenn’s chance of getting their season underway It means that then villagers will try to make it third time lucky to kick-start their league season with a home game against Upottery next Saturday.
