E DIVISION
FILLEIGH are the new leaders of the E Division after they claimed a maximum points haul at home to Tiverton and Bickleigh whilst morning leaders Upottery slipped to a first defeat of the season at Kenn.
Gary Henry (5-39) and John Hickman (3-10) combined to hustle the mid-Devon men out for just 72 with only Dan Marshall (22) and extras (25) making any significant contributions to the cause.
Mark Prideaux (26no) and Godfrey Tucker (25no) led the hosts to an eight-wicket success with a full 36 overs of the contest remaining!
UPOTERY slipped to defeat at Kenn in a low scoring affair. Falk Koeller (21) and Matt Wonnacott (18) were the only home batsmen to make any progress as Lee Nichol (4-45) and Dan Broom (3-20) combined to great effect.
But if batting was tough before tea it proved just as difficult later on as only Jason Kennard (13) and Ollie Rice (12) lasted long at the wicket
Stuart Wonnacott (5-20) and Pete Chislett (3-25) made sure that the East Devon side were bundled out for just 74.
BABBACOMBE eased their own relegation worriers and heaped more pressure on Woodbury by winning the basement battle between the two sides by 57 runs.
Matt Inch hit an unbeaten 73 and Rob Redding struck 34 as the Walls Hill side closed on 194-9.
Jimmy Jones claimed 3-44 for the visitors and then hit 49 to give the best of the support to Tim Greenslade (52) but none of the other batsmen could get to grips with the conditions.
Skipper Paul Bates (4-41) and Dave Williams (3-35) claimed regular wickets to leave Woodbury all out for 137.
Babbacombe remain in the bottom two, but have moved within 12 points of Tiverton, who were beaten by leaders Filleigh.
Woodbury are now 29 points behind Babbacombe and need to find 42 points from somewhere to get ahead of Tiverton and reach safety.
KILMINGTON struck a superb victory as they beat Honiton by four wickets in a thrilling East Devon derby. Batting first, Honiton were in all sorts of bother on 82-7 when number nine bat Rob Ingram strode to the wicket.
Ingham proceeded to dominate the remainder of the session, striding off at the close with an unbeaten 64 to his name.
Keith Rockett was once again the chief destroyer with the ball as he sent down 13 splendid overs and claimed 5-30. Wickets from Tom Wallis, Hal Cook, Tom Gooding and skipper Maurice Bevis, enabled the home side to take the final Honiton wicket at 175. It was no stroll though after and it needed a wonderful unbeaten 49 from Tom Gooding to see Kilmington to a four-wicket success. John lavender was on 49 when he was run out, and so jug buying was a voided on a number of counts in the home dressing room!
KENTISBEARE were two wicket losers in a thrilling contest with Uplyme.
Batting first Joe Blackmore hit a top score of 43 in the Kents’ offering of 165-98. Steve Batey took 3-36 from 13 very effective overs and Ashley Caddy bagged a brace. At 27-5 it looked a lost cause for the visitors but then number six batsman Derek Wellman decided to set up operation ‘rescue the run chase’ and he hit an unbeaten 48 helping guide his side to victory, helped along then way by number seven bat mark Brimmacombe with 21 and then number ten Jamie Toates who hit an unbeaten 17 to help bring up the victory.
