E Division: Uplyme take over at the top

Uplyme and Lyme Regis are the new leaders of the E Division after a whopping ten-wicket win at Upottery.

A one-sided East Devon derby saw the hosts bundled out for just 116, passed at a canter with just the one wicket down by the visitor’s.

Gary Kennard top scored with 28 in the Upottery innings whilst visiting skipper Ashley Caddy picked up 4-22. The Batey brothers then saw their side to a nine -wicket triumph and it made for a brace of jugs post match for their team-mates as Steve finished 51not out and Mark was unbeaten on 50 when the win was confirmed.

Uplyme have now won their last 14 matches and this season have bowled out the opposition in their three games each time for less than 140!

Skipper Caddy said: “We are in good shape right now and enjoying our cricket. Uplyme take an 11-point lead into Saturday’s meeting with third-placed Kentisbeare.

Bridestowe slipped to their first defeat of the season, beaten by a Topsham St James side who were recording their first success of the term! Sam Skinner (52) and Theo Miller (40) led the Saints to 185. Gareth McDougall took 4-23 for Bridestowe who were them bowled out for 138 with only Tom Fogarty (27) and Mark Fogarty (24) making an impression as Topsham skipper Ross Treleaven claimed 5-29. Kentisbeare are up to third after a five wicket win in a high scoring game with Tiverton and Bickleigh. Jeremy Sprague hit 96 and Steven Reed struck an unbeaten 59 as the Kent’s won on 243-5 after bowling the visitors out for 242. Russell Hilton hit an unbeaten 59 for Tiverton and Bickleigh. Tom Martin (3-33), Neil Farley (2-33), Pat Hobson (2-56) and Vic Lothian (2-56) shared the home wicket-taking duties. Phil Hubbard bagged a brace for the visiting side.

Todd Bulman hit his maiden senior cricket century and ended unbeaten on 106 as Shaldon won by six wickets at home to Kilmington. Tom Gooding (53) and Ralph Cook (29) were the main run providers in the East Devon side’s 179.

Chris Whitehead (3-12) and Carl Woolnough (3-35) were the principle wicket takers for Shaldon who were then led to a six-wicket win by that Bulman knock whilst James Tufnell hit 61, the pair adding 148 for the first wicket.

Kenn claimed their first win of the season with a single wicket success in a thrilling contest at Whitchurch. Martin Croker hit an unbeaten 115 and Nigel Bariball hit 40 as Whitchurch closed on 231-4. Dave Murfin then hit 85 and Tyrone France struck 38 asd Kenn got home with their last pair at the wicket. Josh Towl took 3-53 for the home side.
