TOP met
bottom in the E Division East 2nd XI table with a predictable outcome as table
topping Seaton won by nine wickets at Axminster III. Home skipper Emily Broad
scored her highest total to date in Francis Clark Devon league cricket with 39
and Jack Unsworth chipped in with 19 in a total of 112. Chris Aplin (4-19) and
James Thomas (2-13) were the principle Seaton wicket takers. Dave Turner (33)
and Nial Waterhouse (22) then saw Seaton to a comfortable victory and they were
helped over the line by a generous 44 extra’s. The one wicket to fall for the
home side was a run out created by Sam Dibling.
Kilmington
II are clear in second place in the table after an emphatic ten wicket home win
over Kenn II. Charlie Potter weaved his magic to claim 5-51 as the visitors
were bowled out for 158 with only Sam Passmore (24) and Ian Gosling (22)
amongst the runs. Graham Watts (85no) and Les baker (44no) then used just 23
overs to see Kilmington across the finishing line.
Halberton II
sit third, 21 points shy of Kilmington after they picked up 13 points in a
weather ruined game at Cullompton II. Darren Paul top scored with 58 in the
Cully 179 all out. Adrian Salter (3-26) and young Harry Everett, son of Mid
Devon football legend Phil Everett, took 3-30. Brian Chilcott then hit 36 and
Sam Butler struck an unbeaten 32 to lead Halberton to 125-7 when the rains
arrived to wash out any chance of a tight finish. Will Bowles (3-31) and Andy
Stamp (2-20) were the principle Cully wicket takers.
Topsham St James II bagged a fourth straight win with
a three wicket home success over Thorverton III. Alan Birmingham top scored for
the Thors with 22, bit it was Ben Ward who dominated the opening innings of the
match with 5-15. Ward then top scored with 41 as the Saints got home with seven
wickets down, three of them falling to Mike Denford (3-30).
