E DIVISION EAST
UPOTTERY showed their win over table topping Exeter III was no fluke by beating Exeter CS by 171 runs to move up to second in the rankings.
Matthew Button-Stephens led the batting with a top score of 79 and there were useful contributions also from Leo Jefferson (43) and Bruce Inglis (33) in what became a formidable total of 235.
That proved more than enough as Inglis then claimed 3-12 and 15-year old Shane Kennard took 2-13 in six splendid overs before his age determined the end of his spell.
Skipper Prettejohn weighed in with a brace and the Civil Servants were bundled out for 64.
Next up for Upottery II is a home game with a Kenn side who will pitch up at the village sitting second bottom in the table.
Kenn were left clinging on for a draw against fellow strugglers Topsham St James.
St James recovered from an iffy running total of 88 for seven to reach 172 for nine.
The men of the hour were last-wicket pair Dan Williams (53no) and Sam Garner (17no) who match the divisional record partnership by putting on 56.
Kenn struggled to 75 for six in reply – Garner (4-40) among the wickets for St James – and that long-awaited first win seemed on the cards.
Casey Clay (44no) dug in for the duration and went on to save the game at 159 for eight.
Kilmington II beat visiting Cullompton II by 60 runs.
Skipper Steve Morris led from the front, crashing six 6s in a whirl-wind knock of 65 as he and Ashley Cook (41) guided the hosts to 167. James Lambert (4-20) and Jack Larcombe (3-27) then combined to bowl out the visitors for 107.
