BABBACOMBE captain Paul Bates was close to fuming after the game against Upottery ended in a tie.
Bates took six for 15, and Tim Goodwin two for 28, as Upottery were bowled out for 106.
Babbacombe were all out for exactly 106 as well, Dan Broom (3-38) and former Newton Abbot rugby player Gary Kennard (5-15) rolling them out.
Goodwin made 26 not out in pursuit of a win, but ran out of people to bat with when last man Richie Backholer was hit on the head by a bouncer and trod on his stumps as he reeled away.
“An opportunity missed and five points lost, rather than five gained for a tie,” said Bates.
“Having fielded well and bowled the opposition out for 106 in the 37th over. A win should have kick-started our season.
“At 60 for three at drinks after excellent opening spells from James Johnson (1 - 21 from 10) and TimGoodwin (2 - 28) the innings could have gone either way but excellent fielding backing up our slower bowlers and saw Uppottery collapse.”
Bates said Babbacombe lost wickets in clusters and were starting to fade from the game a 37 for four.got the total to 80 for six, before three wickets went in a hurry.
Goodwin and Bates put on 19 for the ninth wicket, but with Bates out lbw with two needed number 11 Rich Backholer had to go in.
A single levelled it, then the bouncer felled Backholer and the match was tied.
“It was pleasing to see we can bat right through the order but what is worrying is we have now been bowled out twice without completing our overs,” said Bates.
“More time at the crease from the top order and someone in the top six building themselves an innings will help get both parts of our game going.
“If we can do that we wil be competitive opposition for anyone.”
