Exmouth have first look at West Indian paceman Clarke

WEST Indian fast bowler Marques Clarke had his first net with Exmouth on Tuesday night after flying in from Barbados for the season ahead.
The 24 year old paceman is set to make his club debut this Saturday in the Arthur Bright Cup game against Budleigh Salterton – the traditional curtain raiser to the season between the two clubs.
Clarke is reputed to bowl around the 85mph and Exmouth skipper Richard Baggs said he looked lively in the nets where Devon keeper Sandy Allen kept to him during practice.
“Sandy had a good look at Marques and said he bowls at a decent pace and does a bit with the ball,” said Baggs.
“He is also a handy lower-order bat and looks like a good signing for us.”
Clarke has played in England before – he toured with the Barbados Wanderers in 2006 – and has played representative cricket at home for Barbados U19s and the Combined Campuses & Colleges.
Baggs has also recruited former Exeter all-rounder Jon Evenett, who has not played seriously for at least 10 years – and possibly longer.
Evenett acquired a reputiation for making runs in a hurry at the County Ground – and still holds a Premier Diivision batting record set in 2002.
Evenett made 127 not out in a stand of 165 for the seventh wicket with Mark Price. The opposition: Exmouth!
“Jon has had a couple of nets with us and was a bit rusty at first – hardly surprising as he hasn’t played for so long,” said Baggs.
“Pretty soon he was hitting it as clean as a whistle, like the Jon Evenett of old.
“He can’t play every game, but reckons on 13 out of the 18.
“Jon is a player who can take a game away from you in the space of five or 10 overs and is going to be massively important to our T20 this year.”
