F Division: Even tighter at the top!

THE top two both bagged maximum points and so it remains as tight as ever at the top of the table.

Topsham St James continue to lead by a point after a 47-run win at their Bonfire Field home over the morning’s third placed side Kingskerswell.

Joe Thomlinson produced the individual stand-out performance with a top score of 61 in the Saints’ 222-7. He then claimed 3-9 as the visitors were bowled out for 175.

Ross Treleaven, back in charge after a two week absence through holiday, marked his return with 40 and Tom Richardson hit 39. Erik Greggersen took 3-47 for the visitors and then top scored with 61 whilst Aron Owen made 42.

Apart from Thomlinson’s efforts with the ball there were also two wickets each for Nick Horne and Treleaven.

Shaldon were 99-run winners at Exeter Civil Service. Jay Tuffnell (94) and Mark Couch (55) led them to 272-9.

Kris Calderhead took 4-56 for the hosts who were then bowled out for 173 with only Vic Murphy (51) amongst the runs as Seamus McKenna (4-30) and Couch (4-32) claimed wickets.

Yarcombe are now the best of the rest behind the top two after they were eight-wicket winners at Culmstock.

The Mid Devon side batted first and were led to 202-5 by an unbeaten 56 from Devon rugby player Marcus Busch.

Ross Stickland also got runs with a knock of 50 whilst Mike Barnes bagged two of the home wickets to fall. David Patch then hit an unbeaten 82 and Jamie Mitchum hit 76 – the pair adding 159 for the second wicket as Yarcombe got home at a gallop.

Hemyock were single-wicket winners after a thrilling encounter with Newton St Cyres.

Phil Denham (25) and Andy Cork (20no) were the principle scorers as Newton St Cyres closed on 122-09.

Mike Ellacott took 3-15 for the home side who glad of John Hurley’s 51 not out. Martin Pearce (4-25) and skipper David Church (3-17) were the principle wicket takers for the visitors.

Wojciech Syzmanski struck an unbeaten 143, putting on 148 for the second wicket with Matt Coombes (53) to lead Chelston to 281-2 at home to Cheriton Fitzpaine.

The Cherries were then bowled out for 164 with only Gary Say (31) and Patrick Blake (34) making much impression as Chris Mabbutt, who had earlier hit 29 runs with the bat, claimed 3-15 in 6.2 overs.
