F Division - Babbacome denied by talented teenagers

YARCOMBE had to crack open the orange juice to celebrate two of their younger players at stumps in their game against Babbacombe.
Steve Lewis (68) and skipper Steve Broad (32) led the hosts to 199-9 with Richard Reed (4-57), Matt Barnacle (3-39) and skipper James Mitchum (2-58) claiming the wickets.
Nigel Parris (35) and Sean Morris (24) then provided the two biggest contributions in the reply. Goodwin (3-42), Matt Passmore (2-27) and Sam Powell (2-38) were the wicket takers for Babbacombe.
However, it was a pair of 13-year-olds who made sure that Yarcombe returned home with a losing draw as Billy Rudolph and Ollie Reed saw out the closing overs to deny the table topping home side with Yarcombe closing on 137-9.
Young Rudolph came in at number five. His skipper said: “Both youngsters applied themselves so well. Billy (Rudolph) looked so assured coming in at five and did not offer a chance, he looked as if he could have batted all day. Technically he is very correct and has a text book forward defensive shot.”
With three to play Yarcombe’s fate is in their own hands and if they are to cross the line and seize promotion then it will be done at home for all three of their remaining matches are at their Victory Hall ground in Stockland. They entertain bottom of the table Newton St Cyres then receive Kingskerswell before entertaining Chardstock.
Mitchum says; “The two points the youngsters earned us for the losing draw with their batting, coupled with the surprise defeat for Chelston at Chardstock, puts us in a great position. It’s in our hands, for, after Newton St Cyres we host Kingskerswell in what will be a winner-takes-all game and then finish at home with Chardstock. A lot of hard work has gone in to get us here, now we have to make sure we stay focussed to make it over the line.”
There was no play at Culmstock where a water logged wicket put paid to the game with Woodbury.
Kingkerswell’s promotion push was held up by battling Newton St Cyres who closed on 133-9 in reply to a total of 191-3. John Elliott (84), Eric Greggerson (52no) and Steve Lacey (29) led the home innings. Mike Parfitt then hit 44 for the Mid Devon side whilst Lacey took 3-19.
Rami (81) and Lee Elston (77) led Exeter Civil Service to 254-8 at Cheriton Fitzpaine. Grant Squire took 2-41 for the Cherries who were then bowled out for 144 with Prince Xavier (4-25) and Paul Rowe (4-22) the wicket takers. Jeremy Tricks (38) and the ever green Mike Foan (27) scoring runs for Cheriton.
A fortnight ago Chardstock had not won a Francis Clark Devon league game all season. That ended with victory at Culmstock and now they have a home win to savour after beating promotions seeking Chelston by 77 runs.
Jack Larcombe (55), Richard Pyman (45) and Jack Elis (18) combined to see their side to 169-8.
Pyman junior, 15-year-old James Pyman, then claimed 4-17 with a splendid spell of seam bowling. Jack Ellis completed a fine all-round contribution with 3-24 as Chelston were shot out for 92.
Pete McKell hit 22 for Chelston whilst P Hawkins took 3-35 earlier in the game.
