Feniton bring in Canadian batter for season

FENITON’S dressing room will be minus several familiar faces when the new season starts with a visit from Alphington this Saturday.

There was a rush for the door during the close season with four players departing for Honiton – Brian Cann, Jake Smith, Adrian Pullin and Ben Kidson – and Josh Cann heading for Bradninch.

Having overcome a shaky start to the season and a change of captain, Feniton finished fourth under Pullin,

New captain Jonathan Pyle accepts it will be a tall order finishing that high again, but isn’t without hope.

“Football effects us as a lot of our lads play both sports, which can mean we lose a few for the first three of four games, and again at the end,” said Pyle.

“Although we have lost a few players, we have gained one or two and have players like the Simic brothers – Matt and Jamie – pushing for places.

“If we have got enough players we can be competitive, although it is a tougher division than last year.

‘Shaldon, Clyst Hydon, Alphington and Ottery were all playing at a higher level than us.”

Feniton welcome back Neil Anning from Thorverton and with Josh Cann gone he will keep wicket.

There is an interesting overseas player at Feniton in Adam Ramcharran, who played a handful of games last season for the club while over from Canada on holiday.

Ramcharran mainly bats and has stickabilty, which Feniton may be grateful for.
