Gidney Conquers walk around the North area clubs | |
David Gidney (Pictured above) formally of Chulmleigh & Mid - Devon CC completed his North Area yomp back at his home club Thursday 28th May. David who undertook this journey on foot around all the clubs in the North Devon area as part of a fund raising bid for his Cricket Without Boundaries adventure to Cameroon this coming October. (Click Here to see David's previous build up article) David said about his completed walking venture. 'Apart from just the fund-raising, it gave me the chance to see and chat with some great folks running youth in North Devon cricket - real local heroes - and showed what a great community we have up here. We shared the good things and the challenges we all face. We had cider, beer and I camped on their outfield or their pavilion floor. It was really quite moving in a strange way and not just coz of the blisters and the dodgy knee! I would call out on this particular trip only John Harrison at Filleigh, Andy Parker and Parsons at Braunton, Andy Davies (legend) of Bideford (Pictured bottom left), Graham Moore and Pete Newby at Newton Tracey (Pictured top right) and the great Tidball of Hatherleigh (Pictured bottom right) among those I met. I would also like to mention that the NDYCA contributed £100 to my cause and Bideford CC Colts £50. It is life-affirming that these people have been willing to support young people in a poor country thousands of miles away from us Cricket is a truly global community.'
