Devon ease past Gloucestershire to secure group win

Devon U17 Girls (105 - 2) beat Gloucestershire U17 Girls (101 all out) by 8 wickets

On Friday August 14th Devon U17 Girls played their final match of the season in the ECB U17 Women’s West League. By winning the previous day Devon had already ensured that they would finish top of the West league and progress to the national quarterfinals.

After a bright start, Gloucestershire found run scoring difficult and steadily lost wickets against

Devon’s varied bowling attack. Becca Donohue took three wickets and Rebecca Bertrand and Nicole Richards two wickets apiece. Abigail Evans top scored for Gloucestershire with 26.

Devon’s opening pair of Vicky Bowden and Nicole Richards looked in fine form. They put on 87 for the first wicket at a rate of over 4 runs an over to ensure that the result was never in doubt and that there would be an early finish.

Vicky Bowden won the “woman of the match” award for scoring 54 not out off 58 balls.

Devon’s success, though, during the season has been very much a team effort with many players at different times making significant contributions.
