BRADNINCH new boy Matt Golding has been named in Devon’s Minor Counties Championship side for the opening game of the season against Wales at Exmouth.
Golding, a batsman who bowls leg-spin, has come up through the Devon youth ranks from age 10.
He joined Bradninch this season from North Curry and went straight into the 1st XI.
Devon are the reigning Minor Counties Champions having defeated Cambrideshire in last season’s play-off match at March Town CC.
Eight of the 11 in the title-winning side are back for the defence. Gone from last season are Craig Overton (Somerset), Bob Dawson (retired) and Scott Barlow (Dorset).
In come Golding, former Somerset and Notts batsman Matt Wood and Bovey Tracey seamer Ryan Bougourd.
