Hancock fit to face Berkshire

DEVON captain Neil Hancock will be fit to face Berkshire at Sidmouth in the Minor Counties Championship Western Division decider starting on Sunday.
Hancock, from Newton Abbot, suffered a broken nose in a league game two weeks ago when he was hit in the face by a bouncer from Devon team-mate Trevor Anning.
The injury forced the Aussie-born all-rounder to miss the match against Shropshire which started the following day. Devon won that match to set up a winner-takes all date with long-time leaders Berkshire for the Western title.
Whoever wins the three-day game will face the Eastern Division champions next month.
Said Hancock: “Although I looked a mess after being hit on the nose, it looked worse than it actually felt.
“At some stage I will need an operation to straighten my nose, but that can wait until the season is over.”
Hancock and bowling all-rounder Scott Barlow are added to the 11 who defeated Shropshire under the acting captaincy of Bovey Tracey’s Chris Bradley at Exmouth.
Teenage pace bowlers Charles Morris and Will Gater are retained in the 13, although look the likely  candidates to drop out if everyone reports fit on Sunday morning.
