Having missed out on promotion on the final lap last season, Bradninch are looking to hit the ground running in 2015 with a rejuvenated squad of players.
The Kensham Park outfit were heading for an immediate return to the Premier Division at the halfway stage in 2014, but faded in the second half of the season, only winning one of their last five games and finishing a distant fourth behind top two Plympton and Paignton.
Bradninch will have a new 1st XI captain in Danny Hardy with Will Greig as his vice-captain.
This provides continuity and quality at the helm following the departure of Tim Piper to Torquay.
Bradninch have signed South African all-rounder Luandre Van Wyk, who played for Sandford last season, as senior player-coach
“We are very excited to have attracted someone who has such an obvious love and a passion for the game,” said Bradninch chairman Derrick Foan.
“Luandre has a CSA level two coaching qualification and nine years’ coaching experience at home and in the UK and Australia.
Another new recruit is keeper-batsman Josh Cann from Feniton, who is pictured keeping wicket against Honiton last summer.
“It is equally exciting to be able to offer A Division cricket to one of Devon's stars of the future,” said Foan.
Cann, who will be 17 in March, is a right-handed bat who made his debut for Devon U15s in 2013 and played at U16/17 level last year.
“He confirmed his talent with a 115-ball 78 in the post-tea session for Devon U17s versus Worcestershire at Kidderminster,” said Foan.
Further signings are imminent and with previously successful ex-1st XI captain, Chris Acton, taking the 2nd XI skipper’s role there should be healthy competition for places and some serious cricket to look forward to as he looks to lead the 2nd XI back to the A Division and beyond.
Foan said the club are looking to integrate the youth section in senior cricket more regularly in the season ahead.
“We have a strong U17 team, led by Will Birley and our junior coach Steve Rowe and are looking to employ a second junior coach to help with our U11s and 13s,” said Foan.
Anyone interested can ring Steve on 07999 033030 for an introduction, before meeting with club management to discuss terms and conditions.
Foan said the arrival of new players had the club buzzing ahead of the start indoor nets later this month.
New players are still welcome and either Hardy (07805 312648) or Acton (07856 722436) will be pleased to take a call from anyone interested in joining.
