THE pressure’s on Heathcoat at the wrong end of the Premier Division table after they nosedived to a 193-run defeat at North Devon.
North Devon racked up 241 for seven in 48 overs – Tom Ansell and Max Curtis both making half centuries - then skittled Heathcoat out for 48.
Defeat leaves Heathcoat two places and eight points clear of Torquay in the second relegation spot.
And with Torquay due at Knightshayes this Saturday there is no room for error.
Sam Smith, the Heathcoat captain, said dwelling on the North Devon thrashing wasn’t the answer. Reacting to it is.
“It as one of those days to forget,” said Smith.
“We bowled reasonably and fielded ok, but those are the only positives we can take
“We have two massive games against Torquay (9th) and Sandford,(8th) coming up in the next three weeks, both at home.
“It is time to see who will stand up for us?”
North Devon opener Ansell made 63 off 91 balls and got them the hard way with just five boundaries.
After Barney Huxtable came and went for 29 – he was the first of three scalps for South African pro Qassim Adams (3-52) – Ansell and Curtis put in 77 for the third wicket.
Ben Pitkin (2-61) sent back Ansell, but Curtis kept on going, adding 57 with Tom Allin (39) for the fifth wicket.
Heathcoat were rolled over in just 13.4 over by Jack Pudney and Matt Westaway, who literally went through them.
Aussie Pudney took five for 22 – including Adams, who was out first ball for the second game running.
Dan Powell, one of Westaway’s four scalps, was the only Heathcoat batter in double figures.
