NEW Honiton chairman Andrew Lapping (pictured) will be doubling up next season after taking on not one job but two.
Lapping, who has taken over from long-serving Kim Slater, will also be skippering the second team in 2015.
He is no stranger to the 2nd XI captaincy having led the team from 2004-2012.
When Kieran Conway decided not to stand for re-election, Lapping was quick to put his name forward.
Lapping had always planned to do another term as 2nd XI skipper, but admitted he hadn’t intended taking over the chairmanship, which became unexpectedly available at the club’s recent annual meeting.
“”Going to the meeting I wasn't planning to become chairman before Kim shocked us with her announcement she was calling it a day,” said Lapping, who was vice-chairman.
“But now I am doing it I will give it 100 per cent, as I have with my whole time at the club.
“I would like to thank Kim on behalf of everyone at the club, she has been a major part of it for the last 15 years and has left her mark on the club in more ways than one.
“No one should underestimate what she has done over the years.
“I am excited with the challenge ahead and am very driven to take the club forward on and off the field.
“We have some fresh faces on the committee, and along with our members we will look to move things on.
"As for the captaincy, it was my plan to stand again. After having a few years off from the job to recharge, I am now ready to help bring on the newest crop of youngsters.”
Pete Matravers is the new vice-chairman.
Rob Ingram is staying on as 1st XI captain and looking forward to happier times in 2015.
Honiton were relegated from the D Division last season, but with regionalisation almost certain to be voted next summer Ingram is looking ahead with confidence.
" Last season we suffered a lot from a lack of availability,” said Ingram,
“With the planned reshuffle of the leagues to make games more local, traveling say 20 minutes to a game on a Saturday rather than and hour and 20 minutes will make a big difference to people being able to play more regularly.
“And the divisions our teams will find themselves in will really help our young players to find their feet in league cricket, which will benefit the club in the long term.”
Honiton will be running a Sunday X1 in 2015.
Younger players can sign up for the U17 or U14 colts sides – and new for next summer is an U10s’ softball team.
