TORQUAY should find out on Thursday whether they will be promoted or not from the D Division West.
A winning draw against Plymouth Civil Service was enough to put Torquay ahead of long-time leaders Ivybridge after the final round of matches.
What should have been a home game for Torquay was moved to Plymouth at short notice, owing to problems with the pitch at Torquay Boys’ Grammar School.
League rules allow venues to be changed, but insist on three days’ notice.
No notice was given by Torquay and the league only learned of the switch following an enquiry from the groundsman at Plymouth Civil Service.
A league official confirmed to the Torquay secretary they did not mind the fixture taking place, but were unable to confirm if the match would be valid.
Ivybridge have appealed against the league’s decision to allow the switch.
The issue is due to be discussed at a meeting of the league executive on Wednesday night.
