The Devon Cricket Centre was used for the first time to host the 2011 DCB Indoor finals. With the unfortunate loss of the Ashmoor Centre only three sides took part. Shobrooke Park, from the Exeter centre, had a bye into the final whilst the Sidmouth centre’s representative Clyst Hydon and Cornwood from the Derriford centre competed for the second place in the Final. Clyst Hydon’s captain Simon Holmes won the toss and asked Cornwood to bat. They got off to the worst possible start in the first over when a smart piece of fielding by Graham Trude ran out the West’s captain Ben Warren. Fifty-nine were added by Craig Harris and Scott Mansfield when Mansfield was well held by Chris Holmes off Leigh Morgan (2-30). In the same over Matt Butterfield was caught by brother Simon Holmes. Cornwood were now just past the half way stage on 63-3. Craig Harris retired on 25 and Andy Bees was Chris Holmes second victim and Chris Jelly’s first. The returning Harris and Parker took their side past three figures when Parker was run out by keeper Ian Sutton. Harris took Cornwood up to 111 being undefeated on 37. Clyst Hydon conceded 34 extras. Needing 9.25 an over the Clyst Hydon skipper followed his Cornwood counterpart by being run out in the first over. Matt Butterworth’s agility at square leg ran out Simon Holmes. Ian Sutton and Chris Jelly took the score up to 29 when in the third over Sutton, who was looking to dominate the bowling, was bowled by Andy Bees. Graham Trude and Jelly took their side up to 61 after eight overs when Scott Mansfield pounced to run out Trude. Craig Harris caught and bowled Chris Holmes, Butterworth completed his second piece of fine fielding to run out Leigh Morgan and Chris Jelly was last man out caught behind by Chris Parker off Harris (2-17) for 26. Clyst Hydon fell twenty-nine short with Cornwood contributing 23 extras
In the final Warren won the toss and batted. He then put on 40 with Craig Harris when he was run out for the second time in the evening this time by Shobrooke’s Peter Steer for 17. Four runs later Harris was the second run out victim with keeper Richard Pyle doing the hard work, having scored 18. At the half way stage it was even steven with the Park’s bowlers Phil Anning and Justin Dollow having applied good pressure. However Cornwood put on 96 over the last six overs without loosing another wicket. Scott Mansfield retired on 26, quickly followed by Matt Butterworth for one run less. Chris Parker was unbeaten on 9 and Andrew Bees contributed 12. Shobrooke Park conceded 42 extras in the final product of 150-2. Starting the sixth over Cornwood had not taken a wicket but two were then lost in Butterworth’s (2-18) final over. He bowled Dollow for a top score of 16 and Bees caught Anning two balls later. Next over it became 34-3 when Craig Harris bowled Richard Pyle. Sam Reddick and Neil Branton put on 24 when Bees took his second catch to remove Branton off Harris. Scott Mansfield bowled Reddick for 15 and Peter Steer became Harris’s third wicket. He finished with figures of 3-15. Extras totalled 12 as Shobrooke were bowled out for 67 in the eleventh over.
