UNDER 11 B DIVISION
KINGSKERSWELL climbed to the top of the table with three victories in a week over teams immediately around them.
Previously in-form Barton visited the Playing Fields and were invited to bat. Once Pace Ace Elliott Adams (1-10) had gained the breakthrough the rest of the Kerswell bowling unit moved into a miserly rhythm.
Jack Bell scraped seven before going to a smart caught and bowled from Alex Coysh (1-2), likewise Cole Harford looked secure on for until Jay Moulton ran him out with a direct hit.
Jack Tomlinson (1-4) affected a run out and also picked up a wicket.
A sixth wicket-partnership of 27 between Vignesh Remesh (8no) and Ben Lipton (4no) enabled Barton to reach 58 for five.
The home side’s reply was going nicely before Harford’s introduction to the attack in the fifth over where upon they went from 14-1 to 15-3 in the space of three balls, this soon become 21-4 as he claimed another scalp to finish with 3-10 off 3 overs.
Kerswells hero came in the shape of Neo Coxon (19no), who did indeed prove to be the one, and along with Moulton (7) added 31 for the fifth wicket before Coysh joined Coxon to steer the villagers’ home without further alarm.
The last two unbeaten records in the division met head on when Bovey visited Kerswell for a Sunday morning fixture.
A disciplined bowling and fielding display by Kerswell restricted Bovey to 47 all out in 18 overs. Sam Taylor top scored with 11 whilst Archie Chrishophers (8) and Jamie Rooke (7) were the other chief run getters.
There were two wickets apiece for home captain Zachary Hannis-Smith (2-7) and Moulton (2-2).
Kerswell were soon in deep trouble at 0-2 after only three balls, Bovey pacer Sam Taylor delivering a devastating opening over.
Elliott Adams analysed the situation and formulated a game plan as he and Josh Hurrell (9) set about rebuilding the innings.
Adams began deftly placing the ball into gaps and taking singles whilst turning ones into twos with positive running.
When Rory Simpson (1-9) accounted for Hurrell, Adams needed support and got it from Josh Hammett, who kept an end going with some solid defence.
Adams carried his bat for 24 and with Jack Tomlinson (8no) saw Kerswell home to secure a six-wicket victory with seven overs to spare.
This set up the mouth-watering prospect of a potential winner-takes-all derby of the Kerswells between Abbots and Kings at Two Mile Oak.
Abbots were reduced to 14 for three as visiting skipper Zachary Hannis-Smith (3-16) wreaked havoc among the top order.
Opening bat Nat Saturley (21) stood firm but received scant support.
Extras contributed 37, including 30 wides in a total of 67 for six as the visiting bowlers struggled with the slope.
Leg spinner Todd Powell (2-3) claimed two of the other wickets to fall, whilst sharp fielding and a direct hit from Elliott Adams were responsible for the other.
Kingskerswell secured a handsome 10-wicket victory thanks to a brilliant partnership between Adams and Powell. The pair displayed a growing maturity as the batted sensibly, taking the singles on offer and punishing the bad ball whilst respecting the good ones.
The highlights were a crunching cover drive by Powell and a mighty pull, right off the meat of the bat, over mid-wicket from Adams.
Elsewhere, Bovey Tracey enjoyed wins over Brixham and Chudleigh. Bovey batted well in both games, scoring 100 for one against Brixham thanks largely to an 81-run opening partnership between Rory Simpson (25no) and Sam Taylor (31ret).
Brixham were dismissed for 43 in 14.5 overs as eight different Bovey bowlers took wickets with Matt Harris (2-2) being the pick.
Only one Brixham batter, T Andrews (11) made double figures.
Bovey then posted 129 for one against Chudleigh. Piling on the runs were Simpson (33ret), Jack Churchill (30ret) and Rooke (32ret).
Rook (2-3) then took a couple of wickets as Chudleigh mustered 62 for eight in reply with R Gunn and Adam Sercombe both scoring a not-so-unlucky 13 runs each.
Dartington & Totnes picked up their first win of the season just down the road at Ipplepen.
Ipplepen were indebted to Marcos Gadie (18no) for their final total of 66 for nine.
Doing the damage for Darts were S Ingham (3-2) and J. Orrell (2-12).
Darts got home for six wickets with extras top scoring at 32. There were runs for Alfie Tucker (11) and Tyler Walton (7no).
Another team picking up their first win were Shaldon, who triumphed away at Stoke Gabriel by three wickets.
The home side batted first and amassed 81 for seven in their 20 overs. Bates hit 24 and Phillips was undefeated on 14no.
Bagging Braces for Shaldon were James Waggett (2-6) and Alex Aitcheson (2-12). Wayward bowling led to 45 extras in the reply whilst J Webb (13no) and Aitcheson (10no) steered their team home with an over to spare for seven wickets down.
Barton, under the excellent tutelage of Sue Steart, rallied to earn their fourth win from six games, defeating D & T by nine wickets.
Finn Evans scored 21 and Tyler Woolton (8no) in a Darts;’ total of 60-7.
Cole Harford (2-5) was once again amongst the wickets as was A J Tehrani (2-6). Adrian Lipton (32ret) broke the back of the run chase before Tehrani (15no) and Harford (5no) saw Barton home.
Other results: Bovey Tracey 117-7, Dartington 26. Bovey (26pts) bt D&T (8pts) by 91 runs.
Bovey Tracy 80-9, Abbotskerswell 78-9. Bovey (24pts) bt Abbotskerswell (12pts) by 2 runs.
