Win not enough to lift Ivybridge into promotion place

IVYBRIDGE’S 104-run win over Braunton wasn’t enough to snatch the second promotion spot as Bideford beat Thorverton to make sure of it.

The Bridge were fourth last season and third this time around, which captain Gareth Andrews can live with.

“Overall we are happy to finish third, but we do feel it was a missed opportunity,” said Andrews.

“Losing four games from very good positions has in the end cost us.

“Congratulations to Tavvy and Bideford.”

Opener Andy Johnson top scored for Ivybridge with 36 in their batting-first total of 222 for eight.

Johnson and Andrews (24) put on 50 for the first wicket and every batter in the first seven got past 20 as the scoreline mounted.

Harry Solmon made 22, Jeewan deSilva had 23 and Kelvin Trent 24. Josh Zimmerman (28) and Adam Huxtable (26) kept the runs coming.

Braunton were all out for 118 in reply, which was more than they looked like making at 47 for six with Tom Robotham just out for 30.

The men who did the damage were Pete Abraham (3-17) and Solomon (2-39).

Mark Mitchell (48) and son Callum (22) put up some resistance in a stand of 67 for the seventh wicket.

Once Ramesh Perera (3-4) broke the stand it was quick-sharp to 118 all out.
