Kents honour Goff for 60 years' service

KENTISBEARE had a special award for chairman David Goff at the club’s end-of-season presentation event.

Goff has been with the club in a variety of roles for 60 years.

To celebrate this landmark new club ties were unveiled with Goff being presented with his own personalised neckware as a token of thanks and appreciation from all the club members. The tie is pictured, right.

Kentisbeare were able to celebrate promotion for the 1st XI from the E Division as well as a successful campaign for the 2nd XI.

Awards were handed out by club president John Parkin, who picked up the first award of the evening, for 2nd XI bowler of the year’.

Parkin, who is celebrating his 35th year with the club, took 27 wickets at an average of 11.3.

The 2nd X1 batter of the year went to Gary Farley, who scored 610 runs at an average of 55.45.

Captain Tom Martin was 2nd XI players’ player.  Performance of the year went to Ed Halse, who scored 72 and took three wickets and three catches in the same game.

The 1st X1 bowler of the year was Neil Farley, who took 27 wickets at 15.67.

Andrew Chave won batter of the year having scored 329 runs at 41.13. Performance of the season went to Chave and Marcus Busch, who put on an unbeaten 122 runs for the seventh wicket to win the first game of the season against Countess Weir, rescuing Kents from 80 for six.

Players player of the year was shared by Neil Farley and James Sprague, the latter scoring 430 league runs during the season – fourth best in the division. 

Fielder of the year went to Rory Thomas, young player of the year was won by Ed Halse and most improved player went to Matt Durham.

The prestigious clubman of the year was won by Dave Bunker for all his hard work with the youth section, organising sides for friendly games, setting up and running the ladies section and much more. He is pictured left receiving his award.

Next year Kentisbeare will be running two Saturday teams, a Sunday and midweek team, a ladies section as well as several youth teams from U10-U15.

The club is always on the look out for new players, young and old.
