ISLAND SPORTS SOUTH DEVON YOUTH LEAGUE
UNDER 11B DIVISION
KINGSKERSWELL clinched their second divisional title this season as the U11s followed the U13’s in winning their league, this time with a game to spare.
Second-placed Abbotskerswell rounded off an impressive campaign with a home victory against Stoke Gabriel.
After opting to bat Stoke scored 73 for eight with decent contributions from J Cardell (14), E Fraser (15) and K McSweeny (12).
Picking up the wickets for Abbots were Hanna Born (2-4), Johnny Joseph (2-5) and Harrison Moss (2-18).
The home side made short work of the total. Opener Nat Saturley cracking 31 not out which along with 34 extras saw Abbots home for only one wicket down in 11.4 overs.
Bovey Tracy could yet claim second place with a win at their last game following three successive victories.
Bovey forayed into the South Hams on successive nights, first visiting Ipplepen and running out winners by 41 runs following an uncomfortable experience.
L Mustafa (3-4) and S Pillifant (1-8) put the skids under Bovey as they dipped to 9-4. Jack Churchill (14) and Taylor Ingham-Hill (9) restored some parity before Chris Greenberry (10no) marshalled the tail superbly. Euan Trower contributed 12 in a total of 87-8.
The tables were soon turned as the Pens found themselves in trouble at 16-4.
Doing the early damage were Rory Simpson (2-5) and Churchill (3-4) to complete a fine evenings cricket for him. The home side were unable to recover and finished 46 all out as Trower (1-6) and Greenbery (1-5) also picked up wickets.
The following evening Bovey rattled up 102-3 at Stoke Gabriel.
Bovey enjoyed a flying start as both openers made it into the 20s,
Sam Taylor (25), being one of F Bates’ (2-6) victims, whilst Rory Simpson remained undefeated for his 24. Extras weighed in the 37.
In reply Stoke posted an obdurate 45-6 built mainly around 19 from Bates.
Taylor (2-3) picked up a couple whilst Churchill (1-2) continued to mine a rich seam of form.
Bovey’s fine form continued as they hosted visiting Barton.
Bovey racked up 101-3. Taylor (24) was again in the runs as were Simpson (14) and Archie Christopher (20no). A J Tehrani (1-19) picked up a wicket as did Louie Smith (1-11) and Jack Bell (1-5).
Taylor (2-1) and Churchill (2-15) were again amongst the wickets as only Adrian Lipton (23) showed any resistance in a Barton reply which fell 22 runs short on 79 for seven after 20 overs to secure at least a top-three finish for Bovey.
Barton and Brixham played out a cracker at Cricketfield Road in a game dominated by the bat.
Barton amassed 103-4 Adrian Lipton (31ret) was the mainstay whilst Vignesh Remesh and Jack Bell both finished unbeaten on 15.
Jack Oliver (3-4) claimed three of the four wickets to fall.
Brixham built up a head of steam in reply. Opening bat Darren Moody (26) put his foot on the gas early on before Tom Andrews (30ret) and Mitchell Thomas (22no) kept the pedal to the metal to take the game down to the last ball with six needed to win or four to tie. This proved a hit too much as Brixham finished just short on 100-4. Louie Smith (1-7) claimed a scalp, as did Kieran Bailey (1-11).
This latest round of games leaves Kingskerswell with an unassailable lead at the top of the table and the Villagers received a further fillip when Elliott Adams was selected to make his county debut away at Herefordshire.
