Another round of tributes to Peter Roebuck

I can only say great things about Peter Roebuck. He was a fantastic bloke and influential in my cricketing career.

I can remember him picking me up and taking me to numerous coaching sessions at Taunton.

One of my best memories of Robey was when we managed to finally get him to enter the Q-Club in Exmouth for some late-night dancing! He usually didn't drink much but we all had a great night as it was all a bit more special as he was out with us.

Another memory is from a 1st XI league game. Peter asked Mark Harris to lie down at mid-off as he ‘would have more of a chance of stopping the ball!’.

There are many more brilliant stories to tell about him and his cricketing ability, knowledge and enthusiasm.

He was a modern great and will be sorely missed by all that knew him and the cricketing world.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Peter's death over the weekend. He is a massive loss to the game of cricket and to our diverse society.

He committed so much of his time and money to help others from less advantaged backgrounds.

Peter will be sorely missed by many friends throughout Devon and at Ottermouth in particular.

His contribution to Devon was immense and when you consider how many club cricketers want to be remunerated to turn up on Saturday afternoon, Robey with his pedigree as probably the best English batsman in a generation not to have played Test cricket was happy to play for fun.

A great competitor on the field, you always concentrated that little bit more when he was bowling. I am left with found memories of Robey on and off the field.

An immensely intelligent, straight talking man, who once you got to know him displayed a great sense of humour.

Wonderfully eccentric and without doubt the best cricket writer around. I will miss clicking on to the Sydney Morning Herald

RIP Robey
