Gregory passes on his experience

Lewis Gregory joins Devon Youth Squads

Since December the established Devon youth winter programme has been subject to a major change in direction. Following a full review, last year, by Performance Coach Jon Pitts, EPP Head Coach Julian Wyatt and Level IV Coach Matt Wood a new programme has been developed and introduced. Phase one has placed the emphasis on increasing one to ones and two to ones to improve individual skill levels. It has been very well received and is being splendidly led by Matt Wood and Julian Wyatt. Utilising a number of Devon’s best coaches, including Matt Hunt and Matt Cooke who have just successfully completed their Level III courses. Real progress has been made this winter with the boys and girls from under ten to under seventeen. It is already attracting interest from other counties. Very much part of the new programme is alerting players to what is required to become a better cricketer including the pathway that can and does take young players into the first class game and playing for their country. Recently the under 10, 11 and 12 squads were thrilled to be joined by Somerset’s England Under 19 captain Lewis Gregory who shared his experiences at Plympton. West Devon, Devon and Somerset. He also expanded on the individual roles that are needed to make up a cricket team. He was bombarded with all types of questions and he responded magnificently in his typical unassuming way. The second phase of the programme, group work starts shortly and soon the players will be outside playing for their districts. The programme has received vital financial assistance from the Devon Youth Foundation.
