DEVON Lions were outgunned all round by Warwickshire’s Academy side in yesterday’s 50-over friendly at Wellesbourne.
Lions skipper Jack Dart opted to bat first on a green top and must have wondered if it was the right decision when his team were 15 for three after seven overs.
Dart (28) and Matt Kidd (24) got the board moving again with Hal Kerton (27) the last man to go in a total of 149 all out.
Warwickshire went on to win by eight wickets with eight overs in hand – Andy Umeed (62no) and Mike Hingley (41no) doing most of the work.
Tight bowling spells from Jack Popham and Will Squire – between them they didn’t concede a boundary for 17 overs – meant Warwickshire had to work for their runs.
Devon 149 (J F S Dart 28, H Kerton 27; J Singh-Dulai 4-32, J Newiss 2-25), Warwickshire Academy 151-2 (A Umeed 62no; M P Hingley 41no). Warwickshire bt Devon by 8 wkts.
