DEVON Lions were given a lesson in Twenty20 cricket by the students of Oxford University.The Lions – Devon’s development squad – had a double date with Oxford MCCU in The Parks and lost both games.
The student side won the opening game by 32 runs after successfully defending a total of 150 for six – Wilf Marriott top scoring on 34.
Devon were 118 for six when their overs ran out, Rhys Davis making 50 off 40 balls and James Burke 34 in an opening stand of 91 that had the student side rattled.
“We were well set at 92 for one, then lost four wickets very quickly and only struggled up to 118 for six,” said coach Tim Western.
The Lions batted first second time around with Josh Mailling (44) and Max Curtis (42) among the runs. Matt Thompson made a brisk 38 in a total of 138 for four.
Oxford MCCU won by nine wickets with 3.2 overs to spare.
