DEVON Lions bring down the curtain on their debut season with a friendly game against Warwickshire 2nd XI in Birmingham on Sunday
The Lions – Devon’s Development XI – have played Gloucestershire and Somerset already, as well as having run outs against the Devon side and Oxford University.
The object of the exercise is to prepare graduates from the Devon Cricket Board’s youth system for the step up to adult cricket at Minor Counties level and maybe beyond.
Devon’s team management haven’t been afraid to dip into the Lions when needed this season as Harry Booker, Will Gater, Matt Kidd and Charlie Morris have all stepped up into the senior side fro time to time.
Sunday’s side will be skippered by Bovey Tracey batsman and DCB staff coach Andy Fairbairn, who said he was looking forward to the experience.
“I am under no illusions that the game is about the lads and not me,” said Fairbairn.
“They are the future of Devon cricket and it is exciting for me to lead a side containing players we have worked with in the youth sides.”
The game, which starts at noon, is at the Kings Heath Cricket Club to the south of Birmingham, not King Edward’s Grammar School as previously fixtured.
