Eames and Lott on international duty

DEVON O60s’ duo Bob Eames and Stuart Lott have been representing England in a five test series with two tests in Sidney and two tests in Melbourne and one in Armidal.

The first two tests were played at the famous Manley Oval on 15th and 16th November but unfortunately rain was ever present on both days and the wickets were very un-Australian and particular damp.

In the first test Australia were asked to bat and were restricted to 145 for six in their allotted overs with Stuart Lott being the most economical bowler with 10 overs, no wickets for 23 runs.

In an exciting finish England could only equal the Australian score, tying the match on the last ball of the game. Eames opened the innings and scored 11 runs.

The second test match played on the same wicket saw England win comfortably by six wickets. Australia batting first were all out for 96 with Lott again bowling 10 overs, 1 wicket for 20 runs.

In reply Eames saw England home to victory with six not out.

The teams then moved on to Armindale and the third test was played at the Armidale Sports Ground. Again Australia were invited to bat on a wet wicket with rain in the air and were bowled out for a disappointing 109 runs with Lott again bowling superbly 10 overs, 1 wicket for 23 runs.

In reply England passed the Australia total with ease. Eames top-scored with 24 and Lott was there at the end to see England win the game with 3 not out.

The fourth test was played at Melbourne on November 27. Lott was injured and Eames did not bat. Australia scored 167 for 6 and England won the match with a score of 167 for 3 and therefore the series.

The final test was played on November 29 at Geelong. Eames and Lott were rested under the squad system.

The tourists return shortly via Singapore with one further game scheduled.
