The past two weekends have brought some fantastic softball girls cricket at under 11s and under 13s level respectively. Teams from all corners of the county have come together, to play numerous games against each other in round robin tournament formats with the most consistently performing sides getting to play in a final to see who represents Devon at the regional round.
The Under 11s festival was held at the splendid Chagford Cricket Club ground two Sundays ago, this brought 10 teams of 8 playing in a pairs competition format. After 5 rounds of matches the final was between Topsham St James CC and Sidmouth CC, in a closely fought affair Sidmouth just edged it and came out on top as Devon Champions at U11s level.
This week saw the Under 13s turn to take the spotlight at the picturesque West Buckland School. After originally having over 15 teams entering, the Bank Holiday and player unavailability took its toll on some sides with 7 sides competing to become Devon Champions at Under 13s level. The competition was a very competitive one with the Tarka girls coming out victorious after there second encounter with the Whitchurch Girls in the day. Tarka will go through to represent Devon in the U13s competition.
A huge thank you goes out to West Buckland School & Chagford CC who did a superb job in hosting the Lady Taverners events this year. Girls 8 a side cricket continues to gather momentum this summer with there now being a Girls only festival each month for the next two months. Please get in contact if your club would like to enter a side. (matt.cooke@devoncricket.co.uk)
Thanks also goes out to all the parents, coaches, umpires, scorers, etc who have given up there time to help the girls progress there games. Keep up the hard work.
