QUARTER-FINALS
WHAT a finish! Holders Bovey Tracey scrambled into the semi-finals of the Aaron Printers Narracott Cup with a nail-biting four-wicket win over Ipplepen.
The Pens, who won the toss and batted first, totalled a formidable 166 for eight in their allocation of 15 eight-ball overs.
Matt Quartley clubbed 56, Simon Tapley made 54 and there were chip ins from Luke Tuckett (25) and Sam deFriend (22).
Bovey went for the runs from the start and were indebted to some big hitting from Richard Longstreet (37 off 17 balls) and Dan Green with 37 from 21 deliveries.
Other useful knocks came from Arren DeYoung (30) and Lewis Hammett (19).
Skippers past and present, Simon Newton (16) and James Mason (13) saw Bovey through with two balls to come in the last over.
Bovey will find out this Thursday night who they are playing in the semi-final once Barton and South Devon settle their differences. The semi-final is fixed for June 23 at Paignton.
Barton stormed into the last four of the Aaron Printers Narracott Cup with a crushing nine-wicket win over South Devon.
South Devon were held to 84 for nine in their allocation of 15 eight-ball overs – South African Carl Huyser making 21 and Adrian Hewings 25.
No other South Devon batter reached double figures as tight bowling from Adam Parker (3-16) and Damon Calland (3-19) pinned them down.
Barton raced to victory with five overs to spare thanks to Calland, who hammered out a claim for man of the match by making 32.
Parker was 28 not out when Barton eased past the finishing post.
THE quarter final between Abbots and Dartington & Totnes was finally played at the fourth time of asking – and the game was postponed three times, but the wait was worthwhile as the game ended in the high drama of a last-ball win.
Matt Hickey top scored for Dartington & Totnes with 54 in their total of 119 for six in 15 eight-ball overs.
Abbots needed six to win off the final over from Bertus Loots and lost Mike Smith without denting the total.
Aaron Hearne and Richard Ashworth got the target down to one off the final, which was achieved with a scrambled bye through to the wicketkeeper.
Main scorers for Abbots on the chase were Mark Halse (41) and Marcus Green (30).
Brixham are through in the other half of the draw as scheduled opponents Chelston pulled out of the tie due to team-raising problems. Unfortunately, no one told the competition organisers or umpires Roger Tolchard and Ken Jeffrey, who had a wasted trip from Torquay to Brixham.
