SEMI-FINALS
BOVEY TRACEY 2nd XI are through to the final of the Aaron Printers Narracott Cup following a 14-run win over Barton in the semi at Paignton.
Barton, who can field their 1st XI in the competition, appeared to be chasing the to-win total of 164 comfortably as they reached 139 for five in reply. Then the wheels fell off.
Sean Adderley (61) got out and Barton went into free-fall as Ben Elphick and Gupreet Singh took the last five wickets between them for 13 runs.
Singh took three for 30 to cap a man-of-the-match performance and Elphick had five for 22 as Barton lost three wickets in the final over to lose with one ball to go.
Having been 100 for one with Adderley and Will Grainger (34) on top of the bowling, it was a tough defeat for Barton to take. A double disappointment was knowing this year’s final is to be played on their own ground – and they won’t be in it.
Singh was the stand-out player on the night for Bovey as he top scored with 62 in their total of 163 for six.
Elphick made 25 of the first 35 on the board, then Singh took charge. He got out with the score on 135 for four.
Support came from Andrew Longstreet (12), James Shephard (19) and Simon Newton (15).
Andy McVeigh had three Bovey wickets for 26 runs while Tom Field (2-53) was on the receiving end of some big hits.
ABBOTSKERSWELL sped into the final of on the back of a clinical six-wicket win over Brixham at Torquay.
Andy Pugh battered the Abbots’ bowling for 62 in a Brixham total of 144 for seven.
Pugh and Chris Lanyon (12) made 49 for the third wicket then Pugh cut loose before becoming one of four scalps for Aaron Hearn.
Abbots lost Sam Greensitt early in proceedings – he was lbw to Craig Eaves – and Mike Pugh was run out on 27.
Mark Halse batted sensibly to make 92 not out to hold the chase together and with Mike Smith sharing a stand of 89 with him for the fourth wicket the runs were knocked off with an over and a half to go.
