NORTH DEVON PRIMARY SCHOOLS CRICKET COACHING PROGRAMME

North Devon Coaches have won an Awards for All grant to fund their programme to introduce Cricket in selected Primary Schools in the Barnstaple, Bideford and Ilfracombe areas.

Starting after half term week in June, 12 schools have signed up to a five week programme where all aspects of the game will be coached to groups from years 5 and 6 as part of their PE or Games curriculum.

As a follow-on from the coaching in the schools, all the children will be encouraged to pursue their interest in the game further by signing up to their nearest ECB Focus Club, at either Barnstaple & Pilton CC, North Devon CC or Bideford, Littleham & Westward Ho! CC.

We have secured funding in excess of £4000 to be able to run this programme for at least two years, and this has given us a wonderful opportunity to formally introduce all the core skills and basic technical aspects of cricket to younger children.

Since the success of the England Team in last summer's Ashes victory, the interest in cricket has just taken off - especially at ages 10 and below - and the uncovering of hidden talents at a younger age, plus the sheer numbers now involved, is bound to secure the continued success at all levels of the game right up to National level for many years to come.
