Popham testing fitness with North Devon

NORTH Devon expect to be back to full strength for the visit of Plymouth.

Devon pacer Jack Popham will be available to bowl - how many overs it’s hard to say after a month out with a side strain.

Batsman Dan bowser comes back into the side as he couldn't travel last week due to work commitments.

Skipper Barney Huxtable said there is a slight chance of Jamie Overton being available although that's not confirmed just yet.

Huxtable is sure of one thing though – Plymouth will have a point to prove after two defeats.

“I think Plymouth are a decent side,” said Huxtable. “They are young and have a lot of fight in them so we will need to be at the top of our games if we want to beat them.

“ I still feel there is a lot of room for improvements within the squad, even after beating Exmouth last week.

“But it's still early season and anything can happen.”

Plymouth lost off the last ball of the game at Paignton, so it was hardly a hammering, unlike the previous week’s nine-wicket defeat by Torquay.

Sam Stein, the Plymouth captain, said the performance at Paignton was encouraging.

“We have taken the positives from last week’s game against Paignton,” said Stein.

“We batted very well in the second half of our innings as well as bowling and fielding superbly in the second innings.

“We are looking to take those aspects into this week and making sure that our batsmen are on top form.

“We have the capabilities of putting on a good score, we are just waiting on our batsmen to fire. I think it’s just around the corner.

“We are looking forward to this weekend with high prospects in hand, we will be making sure we give everything to come away with a win.

“As a team we know we are slowly starting to play better cricket and it won’t be long until everyone comes together as one.”
